DIRECT ANSWER

What does a complete switching and routing scope require?

Switching and routing connect users, servers, access points, cameras, doors and cloud services. Design must account for port density, PoE budgets, uplink capacity, route control, redundancy, segmentation, multicast, management and future growth.

TERAPIXELS CAPABILITIES

From field conditions to tested closeout.

PoE access switching

Ports and power for wireless, cameras, intercoms, phones and access-control devices.

Core and distribution

High-capacity aggregation, redundant uplinks and controlled failure domains.

Routing and WAN

Inter-VLAN routing, internet and carrier connectivity, branch links and failover.

Migration and validation

Configuration staging, maintenance windows, testing, backups and rollback.

DESIGN DECISIONS

Resolve the variables before equipment and labor are committed.

Power budget

Total and per-port PoE requirements must include device startup, future additions and redundancy behavior.

Uplink design

Speed, optics, fiber, aggregation and oversubscription affect real performance.

Platform lifecycle

Licensing, support, software releases, spares and management tools affect total ownership.

FIELD PLANNING GUIDE

Switch capacity is more than the port count

An access switch serving cameras, wireless and phones can run out of power or uplink capacity even when it has spare Ethernet ports.

Size PoE by device

Add each endpoint’s maximum expected draw, startup behavior and planned growth; confirm per-port and total budget.

Size the uplinks

Account for application traffic, oversubscription, optic compatibility, fiber type and link diversity.

Protect migration

Validate VLANs, routing, spanning tree and downstream dependencies before moving live ports.

What you should receive: The switch schedule should show ports, PoE demand, uplink media, optics, licensing, software lifecycle and the exact validation and rollback steps for cutover.

PROJECT CLOSEOUT

Make the system understandable after installation.

The installation is only complete when the customer can identify what was installed, where it connects, how it was tested, what remains open and who owns the next action.

  • Port and PoE schedule
  • VLAN and routing configuration record
  • Uplink and optic schedule
  • Migration and validation report

PLANNING QUESTIONS

Direct answers about switching and routing.

How is a PoE switch sized?

Sizing includes device count, per-device demand, total power budget, uplinks, redundancy, environmental conditions and growth—not only the number of ports.

Can switches be replaced in phases?

Yes, when dependencies, spanning-tree behavior, uplinks, VLANs, addressing and rollback are documented. Some phases may require maintenance windows.

Do you back up configurations?

Configuration backup and documentation can be included in implementation and ongoing support, with ownership and retention defined in the service scope.
